Intent - what do we want to achieve?
The principal aim of RE is to explore what people believe and what difference this makes to how they live, so that children can gain the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to handle questions raised by religion and belief, reflecting on their own ideas and ways of living. Our aim is to help our children to develop a reflective approach to life by showing an understanding and tolerance for the views of others in the world around them.
Implementation - How will we achieve this?
We use the Bedfordshire Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education (2018-2023). We teach children about major world faiths and help them to learn from religions. We use a range of resources when teaching, such as artefacts, video clips, art, music, and when possible, special visitors.
Impact - what will be the impact on learning?
In the KT Federation, children enjoy learning about other religions and why people choose, or choose not to follow a religion. Through their R.E. learning, the children are able to make links between their own lives and those of others in their community and in the wider world, developing an understanding of other people’s cultures and ways of life. As such, R.E. is invaluable in an ever-changing world.
Outcomes are evidenced in RE books and children are encouraged to reflect on their own learning. Assessment is a combination of self, peer and teacher assessed.
Parents can choose to exercise their right to withdraw their children from R.E. lessons.
