Meerkats Castle Day 24
The children from Thurleigh joined us for a fabulous day finding out what life was like living in a castle a thousand years ago, funded by Friends of Kymbrook.
'Off The Page' visitor John made history come alive with some wonderful acting and stories. The children all participated in some hands-on activities that people in the castle would actually have to do. They made candles, created 'Grotesques' from clay, made scented sachets, worked with wool to make braids, worked with leather to make their own purses, created their names using illuminated letters and even got to make their own Mediaeval soap!
In the afternoon, the children chose groups to go into - they could practice a knights' skill with some jousting; or entertaining skills by performing some very old nursery rhymes; or becoming jesters - juggling and joking. Some children practised a dance to some lovely mediaeval music whilst others devised a little drama based on George and the Dragon!
Towards the end of the day, all the children sat for a beautiful banquet whilst being entertained by each of the groups' entertainment.
It was a fun packed day. Everyone looked fantastic in their outfits, behaved beautifully and had a wonderful time.
