We are beginning to settle well into the new school year in Lion class.

In English lessons this week we have done two main tasks - the first is writing 'I am...' poetry, which really made us think and the second is some work related to our new class book 'Wonder' by PJ Palacio. In the book, Auggie tells a funny anecdote about when he was born. We thought of and wrote our own anecdotes, some of us choosing to present it as a comic strip.

In grammar, we have done lessons on modal verbs and adverbs of possibility. Mrs Smith is very impressed in how well the Year 5 children are coping with new content.

In maths, we are working on the topic of Place Value. We have learnt to read and write large numbers, we have reminded ourselves of Roman Numerals and we even did an activity where we got to 'spend' Bill Gates' money! We really enjoyed doing this!

In art lessons, we have learnt about the work of an American artist called Kimmy Cantrell. He creates interesting layered faces using clay and we were inspired to do our own versions, but using thick cardboard and oil pastels. We all had our own creative ideas and our masks look wonderful.
